Current catchment-wide Hastings Landcare Projects include:

  • NRCMA Case Study: Simplifying Compost Tea Application
    Two farms in the valley representing pastured beef and horticulture are experimenting with methods of applying aerated compost tea.
  • Resource Kit for Rural Landholders
    This is a joint project managed by Hastings Landcare Inc, Macleay Landcare Network and Nambucca Valley Landcare to produce a resource kit for landholders in the Nambucca, Macleay and Hastings Valleys.
  • Coast And Estuary Resource Kit
    This is a joint project managed by Hastings Landcare Inc, Macleay Landcare Network and Nambucca Valley Landcare to produce a resource kit on the coast and estuaries as a community resource for the Nambucca, Macleay and Hastings Valleys.
  • Pappinbarra Reach Project
    This project is part of the Northern Rivers Catchment Action Plan - Water theme. The intent of this theme is to maintain and improve the condition of the region’s riparian and aquatic environments.
  • Indian Myna Control Program
    The Hastings Landcare Indian Myna Control Program has been running for approximately 4 years, yielding some excellent results. The last 2 years has seen an increase in public awareness of the issue, however the Indian Myna population is still on the increase over the majority of the catchment. 
  • Riparian Management Incentive Projects
    This project provides incentives to landholders in the Hastings and Camden Haven Catchments to assist them to restore, protect and improve the management of the riparian zones on their property. The project is funded by the Dept of Agriculture, Fish & Forestry under the NLP Sustainable Practices Grants.
  • Coastal Landscapes Land Rehabilitation
    This project focuses on controlling and rehabilitating degraded coastal agricultural lands in the targeted areas of the Northern Rivers Catchment Management Authority Region.
  • Community Support Officer
    Hastings Landcare Inc. employs a Community Support Officer.
  • CMA Flood Disaster River Restoration Program
    This project makes funding available to assist landholders and groups to under take post flood (April-June 2009) repair work. The funding is from the Northern Rivers Catchment management Authority
  • Caring for our Country -- Small and sustainable - the future of farming in the Hastings Valley
    Increasingly, established farms are being subdivided and people with little or no rural experience are taking up smaller blocks in the Hastings Valley. This project introduces new farmers to concepts in agricultural sustainability and will provide networking opportunities for new and established farmers.
